Meet Your Hosts
A bed and Breakfast on our family farm? Who was thinking of B &
B's in 1950 when Dad and Mom Hatch purchased Cedar Mountain Farm?
This perfect spot midway between Sandpoint and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho was
my (Daryl's) home from age 4 until I went to college. I met Al at
the University of Idaho (an Illinois boy who came out west to study
forestry) where we attended the same church. One day Al asked me
if I was walking home alone after church. "Yes," I replied.
"You're not anymore," was his romantic come back. (Now-a-days we
drive home from Hayden Friend's Church. Too far to walk!)
We married in 1967. Al served the next five years in the Air
Force. I completed my Music degree at USC in Los Angeles.
(That was a big city experience for a farm girl!) After leaving the Air
Force, Al studied two more years for a Masters In Outdoor Recreation in
Fort Collins, Colorado. I milked cows on a dairy farm in exchange
for housing in the country!
Our next stop...North Idaho. In 1974 we came back to Cedar
Mountain Farm. Al summed it up this way. "You can take the girl
out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl."
We've been here ever since. I've milked cows and goats, made cheeses
and soaps, and
love to garden. Al has selectively logged the forest land of our
farm. Together we built the houses with logs from the woods.
Seven children have called Cedar Mountain home. We are "Nana" and
"Poppa" to lots of grandkids and even a great grand baby!
A Bed and Breakfast on our family farm? We couldn't be happier!
What a blessing to be visited almost every week either by a new comer or
a guest who has become a friend and returned to stay again. We
delight in welcoming you to this beautiful farm we love and call home.
