Athol

The two closest towns to Cedar Mountain Farm are Athol and Bayview.  So, let's visit them in alphabetical order!

Athol sits just five miles from the farm at the intersection of Highway 95 and 54.  (Highway 54, by the way, is one of the shortest highways around--going from Spirit Lake (another great little berg to visit) to Bayview--a distance of 16 miles!  You'll find lots of great services available in this tiny little town.  Car repairs and a friendly tire store for the needy car traveler will get you on your way again.  If hunger grabs you--wow, Athol has more little restaurants than most towns it's size!  How about these for country names:  The White Pine Cafe (white pine is the Idaho state tree), The Rib Ranch, Country Boy Cafe, Saddle Up Steak House, and KKJ's Pizza (named for the first letters of the owner's children's names!).  Having a bad hair day?  Athol boasts two beauty salons! You'll find churches, bars, gas stations, a mini market, quilt shop, several espresso huts, and the friendliest post office around (ah, you say I'm prejudiced--why, of course, it's our post office!)

Bayview

Bayview is about 9 miles from our farm.  It lies on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced Pond er ray).  Several small restaurants serve guests there.  Float houses line the edge of the lake and marinas claim their share of the lakefront as well.  The lake itself is huge and deep--home to the Navy Acoustic Research Detachment.  Boat rentals are available.  The Bayview Chamber of Commerce site provides more information.  One of the nicest areas close to Bayview is Farragut State Park.  It was a Navy training station for World War II, then hosted Boy and Girl Scout Roundups in the 1960's.  Now it provides camping, hiking, cross country skiing, boating, swimming, biking and other sports activities.
